Historically, Carnelian was associated with Kings and Royalty, and was commonly used a seals and Amulets. The name Carnelian comes the reddish-orange fruit of the Cornelian Cherry Dogwood. Also because of the stone’s color, it is often associated with fire, and fiery energy. As Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, is often thought to have a hot temper, Carnelian became known as a stone of Thor’s. This later led to Carnelian becoming Sweden’s National Gemstone.
Metaphysically, Carnelian is believed to bolster courage, enhance self-esteem and creativity, decrease depression, increase energy, overcome insomnia, and protect against fire. Carnelian is also the alternative birthstone for July.
